Welcome to this week's blog post in which I start exploring the mental health challenges faced by children with special educational needs, and provide some ideas for parents and caregivers to help their children with these challenges.

Some of the different special educational needs that may impact a child's mental health include:

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) including Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD)

Intellectual Disabilities

Emotional and Behavioural Disorders

Speech and Language Disorders

Sensory Processing Disorders

Physical Disabilities

Today I’m going to talk generally about ways you can support a child with any of the above challenges, and then start looking at each one in detail. There's a lot to say on the subject, so I will be continuing with a part 2 next week! We will cover ASD, PDA and ADHD this week, and next week I will talk about the remaining examples in more depth.

Warmest wishes
