Helping Your Anxious Child: Your Qs Answered - Part 3
May 05, 2023Welcome to Part 3 of my mini-series on the top ten questions that parents of anxious children ask.
In this week's post, I'm tackling two important questions:
Won't my child's anxiety just get better by itself? and
Can childhood anxiety be cured?
These are two questions that many parents of anxious children struggle with. It's natural to wonder whether your child's anxiety will just go away on its own, but if you have listened to my free 3 part audio series on the most common mistakes parents of anxious children can make, you will know I'm a great believer in parents being proactive and nipping any anxiety in the bud! In today's video I explain why.
lI have heard some people say that there isn't a cure as such for childhood anxiety, it's all about helping children develop the right coping strategies. My own view is that it depends what has caused the anxiety, but in the vast majority of cases I have seen - hundreds over my 30 years of practice! - anxiety can be cured with the right approach (one that I walk parents through step-by-step in From Fearful to Fearless, our online course for helping anxious children and their parents, which will be open for enrolment again very shortly).
In this week's video, I explore both of these questions in detail. I explain why it's not always the case that children will simply grow out of anxiety and why professional help is often necessary to treat childhood anxiety effectively. I also discuss the different types of treatments available for childhood anxiety and explain why it's important for parents to seek help sooner rather than later.
